I’m throwing it wayyy back to the very beginning of my music therapy career with this one. As a brand new professional working in a school, there was one class in particular that was proving to be quite a challenge.
This classroom was made up of older elementary and middle school aged students, and it was quite clear that my existing “goodbye” song wasn’t going to cut it. So I jotted down some new words to the classic “American Pie” and brought the adaptation with me to school the next day.
To my happy surprise, “Time for Sayin’ Goodbye” was a big hit, and we ended our sessions with it the entire year. I recently re-recorded it for use with my current students, and this song remains an effective and well-received goodbye song.
