Description

Have you read the book The Great Kapok Tree, written and illustrated by Lynne Cherry? I hadn’t until recently, but I’m so glad I was turned on to it by Irina Kazakevic, creator of the Monthly Kids Yoga Unit. Each month I collaborate with her to create a song that is tied to her kids yoga unit, and this is the song for April.

The idea behind this song was to include all of the characters in the book, and leave space for movements (yoga poses!) after each character is introduced. I kept the musical elements very simple, opting to leave out any melodic instruments and instead just use percussion.

Reading the book helped me to mentally put myself in the rainforest setting, and from that point on it was easy to create a jungle vibe through the music. I hope it comes across in that way when you listen to the song.
