Songs with a “freeze” element to them are always a huge crowd-pleaser, and adding drums into the mix only makes for an even bigger hit! “Everybody Play, Everybody Stop!” combines those two elements to target critical listening, gross motor skills, and impulse control.
I like to pass out a variety of drums to my group and then have them play along while I sing through the entire song one time. Then I instruct them to listen very carefully as they play, and STOP playing when the music stops.
So far, almost everyone has caught on right away, and it becomes a fun game to stop drumming when I stop playing and singing. There are a whole lot of smiles and giggles every time, and more importantly, progress toward those important goals.
