I don’t know what it is about hand claps, but in my opinion, they make any song just a little more fun. And a song all about clapping absolutely requires them.
But this tune has a purpose, too…and that is to explain the situations in which clapping is an appropriate response. This is knowledge that every child should have, and why not teach it through a fun song? (That’s actually my philosophy on every subject, come to think of it.)
Aside from the educational purpose of this song, it’s also good practice for learning to clap on the beat. Hand claps are fun AND functional!
