Description
This song combines rhythm sticks play, color identification, and rhyming with a familiar melody that makes it easy to incorporate into any music therapy session or class. Using the tune “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, the simple lyrics lend themselves to singing along while following the unique instructions given in each verse.
I use this song in combination with color flash cards to give my students and clients an opportunity to practice identifying colors, but you can also just use the objects in the room, which serves as a fun challenge.
The best part is that instead of just tapping our rhythm sticks the usual way, we get to be a little unconventional — tapping our sticks in a circle, on our shoes, while we lean, and many more ways that rhyme with each color.
