Description

“If You’re Wearing a Red Shirt” is a simple, repetitive song that directs participants in a group to play their rhythm sticks only if they fit the description in that particular verse. Encourage participant(s) to identify things about themselves, such as if they are a boy or a girl, wearing a certain clothing item, or color!

“If You’re Wearing a Red Shirt” provides opportunities to address these objectives:

-Increase ability to identify personal descriptives
-Improve impulse control
-Increase ability to follow one-step directions
-Increase ability to utilize grasp

One thing I’ve noticed when I give a child a pair of rhythm sticks is that it’s extremely difficult for him or her not to make some kind of noise with them. So I made a game out of it! For an added challenge, encourage participants to brainstorm how to play the rhythm sticks in different ways!
