Description
The lollipop drum is one of those instruments I didn’t have any specific go-to songs for, so I’ve written several myself. But I can’t believe it took me this long to adapt the original “lollipop” song that has been around since the 1950s!
“Lollipop” was written by Julius Dixson and Beverly Ross in 1958. It was first recorded by the duo Ronald & Ruby and then covered by The Chordettes (that’s the version you’ve probably heard).
I was inspired by that recording, and used it as a model for my latest lollipop drum song. While the lyrics to the verses have been changed to focus on drum play, the chorus (consisting of only one word repeated over and over!) is the exact same.
I use the song to facilitate instrument play during classes and music therapy sessions, and it’s so much fun to see adults and children alike join in singing immediately.
