Description
During the winter, I incorporate even more movement songs than usual into my music therapy sessions, groups and classes. We’ve got to combat the sluggishness that seems to plague just about everyone (including me!) this time of year somehow, and “Skating ‘Round the Rink” is a good way to do that.
This song addresses gross motor movement, following directions, directional awareness, and above all, is a whole lot of fun. I use a stretchy band to maintain our circle and group cohesion, though it could certainly be done without any props at all.
Everyone holds on to the stretchy band while we “skate” forwards, backwards, sideways, quickly, slowly, and any other way we can think of. This song is actually a bit of a workout, and I’m usually out of breath by the time it ends!
